That’s right, the footage you see in the opening theme song is real footage from Scranton, Pennsylvania. If you’re a fan of the show and already know a little bit about the behind-the-scenes work of the office, most people know that the officer was shot in California. Not Scranton, Pennsylvania. The footage you see of Scranton, Pennsylvania, was shot by John Krasinski, the actor who plays Jim Halpert. After Krasinski got the role as Jim, he took a trip there with a few of his buddies, and he took some video clips of the city.
